I would like to say huge great big thank you to my coach Sam Slack. He has been with me every step of the way in the lead up to my first bodybuilding competition. It really hasn’t been easy, and at times, quite hard especially with the ups and downs that life throws at you. But Sam was always there for support, guidance and motivation and kept me on track. His knowledge about all things bodybuilding is second to none and his passion, enthusiasm and accountability make him a great personal trainer. If anyone is looking to lose weight, get prepped for a competition or just needs that extra push then I would highly recommend Sam.
All that’s left for me to say is, cheers Sam, you are a great guy, trainer, mentor and now a friend. Your help and support over the past 16 months has given me so much confidence and I have completely surpassed my expectations of where I thought I would be. Cheers Sam
The last 12 months have literally been life changing for me, Sam has introduced me to accountability, nutrition advice, sleep advice, business advice, literally most things needed to get my head in the right place which ultimately allowed me to get my health in the right place.
Don’t get me wrong this last 12 months or so has been hard, physically and mentally exhausting really is not an exaggeration. I travel a fair bit for business and combined time I have been out of the country for 2 and a half months, these aren’t short trips either with China, India and America being the most frequent destinations the change of routine, time zones, schedules is tough and previously I would’ve completely gone off track and used this as an excuse to eat as much of the hotel breakfast buffet as possible and fill up on anything and everything in sight. Not now though, Sam has changed my mindset to the point where I’ve actually gone away and LOST weight by the time I’m back, this would’ve been unthinkable previously.
Alongside the travelling there have been a number of health issues and injuries picked up, a broken rib, torn muscles, trapped nerves, sinus infections, throat and chest infections. Despite all this Sam has got my head in the right place, he has got me consistently thinking about food and the effect it has on my body, the types of food I should be eating and when to the point where I now write my own diet following the macros that Sam sets me. This thought-out and considered approach has taken me from 268 lbs down to under 190 lbs something that in my wildest dreams I never thought possible.
Without a doubt I wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for the support and guidance Sam has given. I’m hopeful this is just the start up to now and with a controlled approach the calories will start to go up and we’ll start to add some muscle to my frame, I am excited for what the next 12 months will bring.
If anyone is reading this and is debating whether or not to get in contact with Sam my advice would be stop thinking and do it. With the right effort and determination from you Sam will guide you to get to wherever you want to go!
I would like to say a huge thanks to Sam for everything he has done for me during my journey to the UKDFBA stage. I first signed up with Sam just over a year ago with the intention of having someone to hold me accountable and keep me on track with my goal of building muscle, little did I know at the time I’d be getting so much more than accountability and the results I was hoping for in the process. Sam has completely changed my mindset on nutrition which has helped massively with my relationship with food, which was pretty poor prior as I had a track record of binging until I could physically eat no more!
The whole process from the start has been enjoyable and more importantly sustainable by giving me a tailored nutrition and training plan that fitted my lifestyle and worked around a couple of ongoing injuries I used to struggle to train around. Sam has always been there to answer my endless amount of questions and taught me the reasons behind doing what he has set me to do so that I can learn and develop myself and maintain the progress for the future.
At the beginning of this year is when it got a little more serious as I made the decision to step onto a bodybuilding stage after feeling we had finally added a worthy amount of muscle on in the last half of last year. The prep for the show was very tough in the last 4 week’s at which point the emotional and mental support provided by Sam was valued more than ever.
Again, I can’t thank Sam enough for everything he has done for me, the knowledge and guidance he offers is second to none.
Over the 16 weeks I have been working with Sam, he has took my physique to a level I never believed would be possible and I still find it pretty amazing to think that it has been possible to do just through an online based approach, having never personally met each other.
Before starting my plan I filled out a questionnaire which detailed my current condition, pictures, what foods I liked and disliked etc.. and Sam composed a nutrition and training plan.
The nutrition plan was something I immediately loved as having failed so many times before with a strict fad diet, Sam’s approach to flexible dieting allowed me to experiment with various food sources and offered me a massive education into maintaining a style of eating that I wasn’t going to become sick of.
In fact its quite the opposite I’ve enjoyed the nutrition side so much that I will continue on this path with the tools I have acquired from Sam as its completely sustainable and I can honestly see myself eating like this, tracking macros and being flexible with food for the rest of my days.
The training was split into a push pull legs split with two rotations. Personally I found this approach a great way to adhere to a training plan. In the past I’d always split my workouts one muscle group per day and evidently it wasn’t working. Since training with this split I feel my muscle growth and strength gains have been improved a great deal, not only that the training sessions have been so much more enjoyable, less volume in a session but in theory more volume throughout the week hence better results.
Being accountable to Sam was without doubt one of my biggest motivations. Each Monday I’d check in and Sam would review my weekly expenditure, workouts, calorie intake, mood etc. He would review it all and send me video feedback with any adjustments being made.
Having somebody do that for me was a great push and refreshing to see my progress on a weekly basis as I’d never really kept track of it so much. I’ve never felt so good in clothes, and without.
My physique, face, mood, confidence and everything has just been blown out the water. I’ve never felt so good in clothes, and without. If anyone is thinking about starting a fat loss journey or any other journey related to getting in shape I would not hesitate to recommend Sam, he was a joy to work with and I will for sure be working with him in the future to gain some muscle.
Having trained with Sam for a long time I knew from the first moment I was going to compete that Sam would be my coach. His enthusiasm, knowledge, attention to detail and dedication is second to none and becomes infectious.
There are a lot of people out there that just give generic diet plans to everyone. With Sam I had a diet plan and training plan designed specifically to fit around my work. This was achieved by filling out one of Sam’s client questionnaires which touched on some things id never really considered.
We worked together for 16 weeks and with weekly check ins and positive constructive feedback from Sam I made small progress week by week to achieve my goals. I believe that any one that works with Sam will achieve their goals too.
Working with Sam is without doubt one of the best investments I have made. I have spent almost 15 years weight training and I have made more progress in six months with Sam, than in 15 years working with a variety of coaches and PTs. My only regret is not starting with Sam earlier.
I initially signed up for four months, we are now 7 months in and Sam has a client for life! This is testament to the quality of my experience with Sam. His knowledge, attention to detail and personal interaction are top class. I’ve worked with many personal trainers and coaches but Sam is the only one who has really got me the results I wanted and structurally changed my lifestyle.
It is hard to put into words just how good Sam’s services are. If you follow his coaching and direction I guarantee that you will get exactly the results you want / deserve. If you are willing to put the effort in, he will take you wherever you want to go! He took me further, faster than I thought possible and I am excited to be working on the next leg of our transformation.
Sam also tailors the training and diet so that it is really enjoyable and fits into your lifestyle. I look forward to training, I eat the foods I enjoy, I enjoy my holidays and going out, all whilst looking better and getting stronger than I ever have been. What have you got to lose?!
This is my review of working with Sam Slack over the past two months:
Firstly, I’m 45 years old, 6’3”, and normally walk round at about 245 lbs.
I’ve been going to the gym on and off for a lot of years, but haven’t trained seriously for the past five years or so. I’ve competed at strongman in the past, and I’ve played Rugby League to quite a high level, so I’m no stranger to the gym. HOWEVER, what I have never done is get myself into really good shape. I decided to do something about that this year. After looking at the personal trainers in the gym, I decided that none of them were really what I was looking for (a bodybuilding coach) and so decided to take the plunge and look online.
I decided that I was going to find someone who has competed in Bodybuilding (So I knew they were capable of practicing what they preach) and were natural. After much trawling, I found Sam Slack and signed up.
One problem I had, was that I was very sceptical of online coaching. An online coach is never going to see me train, asses my form/speed of training/technique/strictness/poundage’s etc, let alone take any measurements or see my in person from different angles. But I signed up none the less.
After completing a questionnaire, I received a very comprehensive welcome pack. I was impressed with the content. It was very much tailored to me, and not generic. One fear I had was that it would be non-specific and generic. I had specified that I didn’t want just a diet sheet and a list of cardio to do.
The pack listed the diet, macros, frequency and portion size (in grams) which was easy to follow.
The training was split into Push/Pull/legs in two rotations, and well thought out, as well as 10,000 steps.
Now, here is the important bit… losing body-fat is a two-way-street! I realised quickly that I had to stick to the diet, and get to the gym. However, it worked… and worked well!
Two months in, I am 210lbs… That is a loss of BODYFAT of 35lbs!!!
I am stronger in every bodypart in the gym, and feel better in every way. Sam’s attention to detail is exact, and his feedback has been great. I have been able to message him at any point and received specific answers. The weekly check in videos are excellent, and when my reductions slowed a little, the changes made worked perfectly. The diet is realistic, although the calories are lower than I’m used to, it really works. I even had my birthday in the middle, and was able to eat cake and have a few beers!!
Looking back, over just this two months, I can honestly say I could not have achieved this without Sam’s online coaching. If you are thinking about doing something about your physique…. then I can’t recommend Sam Slack enough. At 45, I realise I should have done this a long time ago, and I’m certainly not the finished article yet. If you seriously want to change your lifestyle, get in touch with Sam.
The main goal when working with Sam was to lose some fat and get in better shape. At 6 months the results far outweighed my expectations. Managing to lose over 20kg of fat and during quarantine.
Before starting coaching I felt like I knew what I had to do and I didn’t need someone to tell me. However, I’d never successfully cut or stuck to a long term diet. This changed after 1 or 2 weeks in which I made massive changes both in weight but also energy and just feeling better.
After the first few weeks, I’d already managed to drop multiple kilograms and felt like I could already see a change. By the end of the 6 months, I had dropped 24kg and completely changed my body shape.
I was very sceptical at first. I felt like I didn’t need someone to tell me what to do. Its easy calorie deficit and surplus however id never actually managed to make it work! After working with Sam and seeing that what we had done in the first few weeks I completely changed my view. It isn’t just the diet and training plan. It’s the weekly check-ins and minor changes which make it work.
I’d recommend it for anyone who’s ready to make a change. Working with a coach will work if you dedicate yourself to it.
Just into my 4th week. Started at a massive 20 stone can’t believe I let myself go that much.
I’m now under 18 and a half stone already.

Sam Slack has coached me into completely transforming my life. Before I started working with Sam I was like a train on the wrong track. Sure I was getting down the gym and sometimes eating healthily, however a lack of knowledge, focus and direction meant that I was regularly eating the wrong things and even making mistakes in the gym as well as over training. I’ve been working with Sam for the last 6 weeks and can’t find a fault.
Everything from training to diet has changed, and it’s crazy the changes you can make with proper guidance.

Just finished my prep with Sam now I have been training for a couple of years and have got addicted but without a coach I struggle to be strict with all the temptations of food and falling off the track. Sam trains in my gym and if your reading this you already know his physique is bang on, now to start with you need to be a vision of your product otherwise you doubt from the start. I have done couple of plans in the past and found you can look good as a coach but if your communication is poor the service is poor with sam every time I checked in within no time at all had reply which is key! Also any questions just email and straight back with the answer. When it came to the diet for me was perfect because he factored in foods I like post workout to keep me on track, also the way the food was laid out throughout the day even when I got down to the last weeks was not a problem. The one thing I will always use from sam is logging workouts without doing this how do you know you progressing! This year is the best I’ve ever looked and that’s thanks to sam! I am having a little break from the diet now but still training but will definitely prep again with him next time round so I can take it to the next level. Get yourself on board a look banging!
I worked with Sam for 10 weeks with the aim to get as lean as possible and I lost a total of 19 lbs of body fat.
